Chinese President Xi Jinping has just set foot on the floor of the Élysée this Monday, May 6, 2024 in the morning. He was received by Emmanuel Macron for a meeting organized in the presidential palace.

In a public speech addressed to his Chinese counterpart, the head of state affirmed that the “coordination” with China over Ukraine and the Middle East would be “decisive”reports theAFP.

Interview with Ursula von der Leyen on trade disputes

Emmanuel Macron’s first words to Xi Jinping also advocate “fair rules for all” in commerce. These subjects will be more particularly discussed in the presence of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who arrived this Monday to address in particular the trade disputes with Beijing.

Xi Jinping’s stay in France is expected to last two days. This Monday marks 60 years of Franco-Chinese diplomatic relations.

Tuesday will be less formal since the two presidents, accompanied by their wives, will have lunch at the Col du Tourmalet, in the Pyrenees. A place dear to Emmanuel Macron who spent holidays there with his grandmother as a child.

The following days, Xi Jinping will visit Serbia and Hungary.
