Apple’s first foldable device is reportedly fast approaching

An analyst suggests that Apple is approaching mass production of its first foldable device. Such an object would be planned for the end of 2025, in only about fifteen months.

Will Apple end up jumping on the folding smartphone bandwagon? On the Android side, Samsung, Oppo, Motorola, OnePlus, Huawei, Honor and even Google have already offered a device of this type, sometimes for several years. The technology is starting to mature, enough to imagine the Apple brand taking an interest in it.

Mass production of such a device would already be planned by Apple according to analyst Jeff Pu of Haiton International Securities and relayed by 9TB5Mac who was able to consult the expert’s conclusions.

The trail of the folding Mac iPad first

According to the analyst, Apple is working to launch production of a 20.3-inch diagonal folding device by the end of 2025. So it’s pretty close since it’s about a year from now. Once mass production has started, Apple could unveil and market its product, we imagine it in the first weeks of 2026.

With such a diagonal, we are rather on the track of the portable PC with a folding screen. This is reminiscent of Ming-Chi Kuo’s analysis who predicted such an object for 2027. In 2022, we tested a folding screen PC manufactured by Asus and the concept rather appealed to us.

Apple’s folding smartphone would be planned later, with mass production starting at the end of 2026. This time, we admit a good dose of skepticism regarding this timetable. Mass production of the iPhone always takes place during the summer for the commercial launch in September and October. In the past, for special models, Apple has been slow to launch mass production, but never to the point of waiting until the end of the year.

In both cases, we can expect this to be a new family of products from Apple. The brand is in fact used to creating new names for such important changes in form factor. Rather than a simple “iPad Fold”, we could expect a completely new brand, while continuing the sale of the iPad and MacBook that we know today.

Jeff Pu’s analysis seems very optimistic to us as it stands, but whatever happens, we seem to be fast approaching the first more concrete leaks around these Apple projects.
