Cairo – The Council of the League of Arab States held, Thursday in Cairo, an extraordinary session at the level of permanent delegates to discuss actions to be deployed in solidarity with Lebanon in the grip of a military escalation.

In a speech during this meeting, convened at the initiative of Iraq, the Moroccan ambassador to Egypt, permanent representative of the Kingdom to the Arab League, Mohamed Ait Ouali, recalled that Morocco had warned against any spread of the conflict which risks dragging the region into an endless cycle of violence, specifying that the Kingdom rejects any aggression and any attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon.

The deputy secretary general of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, for his part expressed the solidarity of the League with the government and all the Lebanese people in this difficult period, noting that the meeting of permanent delegates to the Council of the League Arab is being held in a context “of extreme seriousness for the entire region”.

He noted that “the Arab League and its member states had been warning for months of the dangers of a regional war, from which no party would be spared.”

He stressed that only the diplomatic channel is able to “meet the objectives of all parties and restore calm to the Lebanese-Israeli border, in accordance with United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701,” noting that Lebanon which suffered for years from successive crises, today faces serious challenges.
