The “nurses-nurses” law promised by Michel Barnier, acclaimed by professionals

DECRYPTION – During his general policy speech, delivered this Tuesday, the Prime Minister indicated that he wanted to “accelerate access to care” thanks to this law, already in the pipeline for more than a year.

During his general policy speech delivered this Tuesday to the National Assembly, Prime Minister Michel Barnier indicated that he wanted to raise “two immense challenges” : improve the “hospital operation” et “fight against medical deserts and the shortage of caregivers”. Thus, the head of government affirmed to carry in the coming weeks «a nursing law »to allow these professionals to go “further in the recognition of their expertise and skills” and give them “an expanded role in patient care”. But what is it about?

The “nurses” law does not come out of the hat of the new government. The project has already been on the table since January 2023, first mentioned by the former Minister of Health, François Braun. But after four changes of minister and a dissolution of the National Assembly, the bill had to be set aside. Michel Barnier therefore hears…
