All flights departing from Charleroi airport will be canceled this Tuesday, October 1 due to a national demonstration. Brussels Airport will also be on strike.

All flights departing from Charleroi airport (BSCA) will be canceled this Tuesday, October 1 due to the national demonstration in the security, cleaning and hospitality sectors in Brussels. The lack of security personnel will be too great to ensure operations, an airport spokesperson said on Monday. The flights which must land in Charleroi are maintained.

Charleroi airport initially announced that it would only operate at 30% of its capacity on Tuesday, but the staff of the security service in particular will be too small.

Passengers affected by these cancellations will be contacted by their airline to reschedule their flight or obtain a refund.

Charleroi airport should return to normal operation on Wednesday morning.

Same for Brussels

Brussels Airport has also announced that it is planning significant disruptions to its operations. Nearly 500 flights were planned for Tuesday, 249 arriving and 243 departing. They will all be canceled except for 98 arriving flights. This situation results from a strike announced by the majority of staff of an external service provider responsible for airport security, in connection with the national demonstration organized that day.

Affected travelers will be contacted directly by their airline. It is strongly recommended not to go to the airport this October 1st.

More than half of landings at Brussels Airport will also be canceled on Tuesday. In fact, in addition to all departures, 151 of the 249 planned landings will also be canceled at Brussels Airport on Tuesday, an airport spokesperson said on Monday.

Unions are mobilizing on Tuesday in the European district of Brussels to demand better salary and working conditions for catering, cleaning and security staff.

Passengers planning to land at Brussels Airport are advised to check the status of their flight via the airport website or with their airline.
