Yesterday, Monday March 29, 2024, a significant discussion took place between the Senegalese President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, and the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. This meeting, which took place virtually, marked one of the first major diplomatic actions of President Faye since his election.
Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated President Faye on his electoral victory and highlighted Senegal’s model role as a democracy on the African continent. He expressed Canada’s commitment to working with the new Senegalese government to strengthen bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on their mutual belonging to the Francophonie.
During their dialogue, they addressed topics such as strengthening democratic institutions and the need to forge a solid future for younger generations, particularly through initiatives to combat climate change.
The two leaders looked forward to meeting at upcoming multilateral events planned for the fall.
