Marc-Andre ter Stegen has suffered a complete tear of his right patellar tendon. This is the ligament in the knee that connects the lower part of the kneecap to the tibia.
He underwent successful surgery on Monday afternoon. But he could be out for up to eight months, according to the Spanish press.
The German goalkeeper was injured on Sunday shortly before half-time in the match against Villarreal FC, a match that Barcelona won with a score of five goals to one (1-5).
Concerns within the Mannschaft
After Manuel Neuer’s resignation from the national team, goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen is now in the forefront after several years of waiting.
But in his absence, the German goal could be guarded by Oliver Baumann of TSG Hoffenheim. He was one of the three goalkeepers the Mannschaft selected for this year’s Euro.
VfL Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nübel is also among the names likely to fill the gap in the absence of ter Stegen in the German national team for the upcoming matches.
The Nations League matches, notably against Bosnia-Herzegovina on October 11, or against the Netherlands on October 14.
300 matches with Real Madrid
Carlo Ancelotti will in fact be officiating his 300th match with Real Madrid. The match will take place tonight at 19:00 UTC between the Merengue club and Deportivo Alaves.
This is almost an unprecedented situation, said Carlo Ancelotti, whose passion for football began in his home country of Italy:
“I played for Milan, so I have a special affection for this club, both as a player and as a coach. But I am lucky to have managed Real Madrid for 300 games“, he said.
Carlo Ancelotti is the only coach to have won the UEFA Champions League five times: the Italian coach lifted the European trophy in 2003 and 2007 with AC Milan. And he repeated his feat with Real Madrid in 2014, 2022 and 2024.
