Outclassed by Genk, Anderlecht put in a shameful performance and missed the chance to take the lead in the Pro League

Anderlecht lost very logically to Racing Genk this Tuesday evening (0-2).

After the draw against Westerlo, an almost obligatory reaction for Anderlecht this Tuesday evening at Lotto Park against Genk.

In case of victory in this alignment match, the Mauves could take the lead of the championship. Which would be a nice trompe-l’oeil given the game developed by Anderlecht in recent weeks…

The coach Brian Riemer decides to attempt a fairly significant change, by putting Anders Dreyer on the bench. Francis Amuzu starts on the right, Samuel Edozie left. Dendoncker is in central defense, Laughs holder in the middle.

Anderlecht already saved by Coosemans

From the start of the match, it was Genk who took the lead. Coosemans must already be used on a strike ofEl Ouahdi (3rd). The Limburgers put on crazy pressure and force Anderlecht…to make a mistake.

The Mauves then conceded a penalty. Steuckers takes off, but Coosemans makes a stunning double save (8th).

Genk continues to dominate. Served ideally, Arokodare misses the unmissable in front of Coosemans (12th). The Anderlecht goalkeeper then has to lie down on a long-range shot from Sor (17th).

Anderlecht come close to 1-0…then get punished

The Mauves try to respond, but are rather discreet. Edozie is one of the best on the pitch, but lacks inspiration in the final move. Foketwell served, volleys. Van Crombrugge made a saving save (32nd).

Anderlecht let the boat slip by, as Genk opened the scoring a few minutes later. On a corner, Heynen serves Sadickwho deceives Coosemans far too easily (0-1, 37th).

If Stroeykens is the only one who tries to sound the revolt on the Anderlecht side, Coosemans has another huge save in front of Arokodare (45th + 2). Anderlecht returns to the locker room to the boos of its public, and can consider itself lucky to be only led by one goal…

The Mauves without solutions

To start the second half, Brian Riemer decides to bring on Yari Verschaeren instead of Francis Amuzu.

Little number 10 tries to get the crowds at Lotto Park going, but without much success. He and Dolberg lack precision in front of goal.

While the supporters are desperately waiting for a constructed action in front of the Genk rectangle, the Mauves are on the verge of conceding on the other side. On the counterattack, Sor misses in front of Coosemans (68th).

Faced with his team’s lack of solutions, Brian Riemer is still trying several changes. Angulo replaces Edozie, Leoni is replaced by AshimeruFoket by Sardella.

Genk kills all suspense, Brian Riemer has cause for concern…

Despite this, the end of the match was mostly just a series of fouls and timeouts. Van Crombrugge would however have to make two saves against Stroyekens and Dolberg. Barely having come into the game, Adedeji-Sternberg will make it 0-2 and kill all suspense (86th).

Anderlecht very logically bows out and leaves the top of the Pro League to Genk. Brian Riemer will have to ask himself the right questions, and there will be many again…
