Jenifer makes a first assessment. Indeed, the singer is currently offering the compilation “Jukebox”, on which she revisits cult titles from the first ten years of her career such as “Au soleil”, “Tourner ma page” or “J'attends l'amour”. “ I wasn't a fan of the idea of the best of, because I always like to move forward, it's my character. But I always think about the stage before making a record. So I recorded more acoustic covers of my hits (…) with a view to an intimate tour which begins in January » confides the interpreter of “Dare” in an interview with Parisian. But, surprise, the album released on November 22 does not appear in the Top Albums of the week, published by the SNEP (National Union of Phonographic Edition). Surprising when we know that her previous record “N°9” entered fourth in sales with 9,468 copies sold in November 2022. Contacted by the Purecharts editorial team, Thierry Saïd, Jenifer's manager, explains to us exclusively the reason for this absence.

“The numbers no longer have value”
Because if “Jukebox” is not classified this week (and in those to come), it is at the request of the label Jenifer ! « We made the decision not to put the album in the Top, we asked that it not be there. For several reasons. The first is that, personally, I am from the generation where we looked at the top 50 and there were no sales figures. It's something that doesn't concern anyone » explains Thierry Saïd, deploring that “ Today, people judge the quality of an album by the number of sales “. The manager who takes care of the career of Jenifer or M. Pokora is campaigning to no longer communicate on sales every week, proposing that urban areas have their own classification: “ The numbers no longer have value because there is streaming in them. How do you expect us to fight with rappers who make four billion streams per week? This is nonsense ».

« The second reason is that we chose original circuits on this album with exclusivity at Fnac, on the official Jenifer website, and in the 350 Grain de malice stores » continues Thierry Saïd, emphasizing that “ the SNEP does not count sales of Grain de malice » according to its regulations. Thus, if the album “Jukebox” appeared in the French music rankings, the figures achieved in these 350 stores would not be taken into account and would therefore not reflect reality. “ From the moment we take away a big sales channel, on which we have made very good sales, it would be distorted. In addition, it works very well, we are very happy with the first results » reveals the professional, who will communicate “ real and verifiable figures very soon “. He told Purecharts that if all the sales made had been counted, the album “Jukebox” by Jenifer would be in the top 5 this week.
Fans can rest assured, Jenifer's next original records, which should be marketed via the usual channels, will be well counted in the SNEP rankings. Incidentally, Thierry Saïd also reveals to us that other dates will soon be added to the singer's “Jukebox Tour”, which will start on January 16, 2025 in Élancourt.
