Tame Impala releases a synth

Under the brand name Telepathic Instruments, the artist will very soon offer his first synthesizer called Orchid.

Orchid is a synthétiseur polyphonique with 16 voices, equipped with a 12-key keyboard, and an ingenious chord generation system via 8 keys. It also includes a collection of effects and modulation tools.

A whole program for less than $600

The synthesizer offers many features in a small format designed by Ignacio Germade:

  • 3 synthesis engines: an analog piano emulation, an FM synth and a Wurlitzer
  • a separate bass synthesis engine
  • 4 LFO
  • an envelope generator
  • 16 voices of polyphony
  • a keyboard with 12 velocity-sensitive keys
  • a set of 8 buttons for constructing generated chords
  • a set of 9 encoders for navigation and sound settings
  • 5 playing modes: Strum, Slop, Arpegiator, Pattern and Harp
  • a built-in infinite looper
  • a collection of effects including delay, chorus and reverb
  • a MIDI output
  • 2 integrated speakers
  • a rechargeable battery

A nifty chord generator

Orchid’s chord generator includes an eight-key matrix for selecting and editing chords. To play a chord, you play the root note on the keyboard and use the generator to trigger the chord, selecting its voicing and using a rotary encoder to change the pitch and reposition the chord.

Price and availability
