Despite everything, Garou decided to cut ties with Céline for personal reasons.

Here is what he said Garou on the show As an aside on Canal+, a few years ago:

She wanted to take me very high and then, at one point, it was almost me who cut the cord to let myself soar. I wanted to go down more than up. I didn’t want to be everywhere on the planet. There was a limit, I didn’t want to go higher, not out of fear, but I said to myself “When you go above the clouds, there are times when it looks the same”. We were very close with Céline, I think she didn’t understand when I cut ties with them.

When we get together, it’s magical, there are lots of things happening in our eyes. There was all this complicity, a real connection

– Garou

I have the impression somewhere that I have betrayed something… But at the same time, I know that she understands that I remain a wild animal,” Garou concluded on this subject.

So despite a great connection and a lot of success, Garou made the decision to move away from the spotlight and it is to his credit that he listened to himself in this way.

The song Sous le vent, performed by Céline Dion and Garou, remains to this day one of the most emblematic duets in French-speaking music. Released in 2001, this powerful ballad showcases the unique vocal chemistry between the two artists, blending Céline’s crystal-clear vocals with Garou’s warm, raspy timbre. Written by Jacques Veneruso, the song speaks of love and resilience, evoking the strength of finding oneself despite the storms of life.
