Charli XCX’s ‘Brat Summer’ Isn’t Quite Over With Fashion Week and a Remix Album

MUSIC – The temperatures have dropped, but the summer trend has not yet had its last word. American singer Charli XCX’s “brat summer” (literally “the summer of the dirty kids”) continues in early September, after conquering the entire world all summer, until Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

From his album Brat released last June, this expression that went viral on social networks invited us to spend a summer of 2024 of partying and transgressions, with the emblematic color of the neon green of the CD cover. Once the school year arrived, everyone imagined the “brat summer” over. But on Thursday, September 12, Charli XCX announced the release of a remix album for the fall. Presented as “Brat and it’s completely different but it’s still brat”its release is scheduled for October 11.

Even London Fashion Week isn’t ready to put “brat summer” away. Sometimes struggling to shine against its prestigious neighbors in Paris and Milan, it got a spotlight for its launch on Thursday with an electric performance by Charli XCX, at a party at the cheap ready-to-wear giant H&M, as can be seen in the video at the top of the article.

For this event, “the most coveted” of fashion week according to British media, the Swedish fast fashion brand transformed a sports stadium in east London into a gigantic club, and secured the presence of the star of the summer, two days before the launch of her sold-out world tour.

Rather than a runway show, H&M unveiled its fall/winter 24 collection with a lively contemporary dance routine, before giving way to Charli XCX’s show. In addition to the hand-picked guests, a handful of fans and customers of the brand had managed to get in for the free evening.

H&M even made the British pop star one of the faces of its new collection, which has just been released online, making her wear a leopard-print faux fur coat. Enough to keep the “brat girl” warm for what some have already renamed the “brautumn”.
