Belgian rapper Damso does a remarkable comeback with his new single “Chrome”announcing the imminent release of his album “I Lied” November 15, 2024.
However, this long-awaited comeback is not without turmoil, notably because of the harsh criticism from his former mentor, Booba. The 92 rapper called the song “catastrophe” and accused Damso of plagiarism : “Damn Dems! Not only does it stink like shit, but it’s also copied glueeeyyyyyyyy.”
Booba shared a video comparing “Chrome” under the title Press by Cardi B, released five years ago, suggesting a striking similarity between the two tracks. Beyond accusations of plagiarism, Booba increased personal attacks against Damso. In particular, he treated his former protégé as “crazy” and “unbalanced”claiming that Damso was “doomed to failure”.
Booba also referred to a warning he received from Shay, another artist, regarding Damso: “The day I heard this piece, I understood that it was really crazy and unbalanced and that it was doomed to failure. @kirchhofficiel called it genius by comparing it to Gainsbourg… Shay me had warned…”
Despite the controversy, the album “I Lied” by Damso promises to be one of the major events of the end of the year in French-speaking rap. The project will include collaborations with artists such as Kalash Criminel, Angèle, Michkavie and Kalash.
