“Is this appropriate?” : why Carla Bruni was “afraid” to participate in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show

At 56, Carla Bruni created a surprise by participating in the Victoria’s Secret lingerie brand fashion show. On Instagram, Nicolas Sarkozy’s wife explained why she was “afraid” to go there.

From Chanel to Yves Saint Laurent, via Dior and Paco Rabanne, Carla Bruni is one of the most fashionable models of the 90s. And after setting the catwalks on fire for years, the sublime brunette headed towards the song. A reconversion for the wife of Nicolas Sarkozy, who regularly uses her Instagram account to give her news to her many fans around the world. But in October 2023, Carla Bruni spoke on the social network and announced that she had breast cancer. At the microphone of Isabelle Choquer on RTL, Giulia’s mother explained why it was so important for her to talk openly about her illness.

“I talked about it because the reason I’m here with my hair in front of you is that I get my checks done every year. Result of the races, it was very small and I did not have to do chemotherapy”, confided Aurélien Enthoven’s mother. So every year, on the occasion of Pink October, Carla Bruni wants to remind people of the importance of cancer screening. This is what she did on October 11, on Instagram: “Four years ago I was diagnosed with hormone-dependent breast cancer. Surgery, radiotherapy, hormonal therapy… The path is not easy, but I was lucky”.

But Carla Bruni does not want the disease to take over. And she just proved it by appearing on the podium at the famous fashion show the Victoria’s Secret lingerie brand. Sculptural in black lace, she strolled down the most famous catwalk in the world in front of the enthusiastic audience. Still on cloud nine a few days after the event, Carla Bruni spoke on Instagram and explained that she had fears before agreeing to participate. “At first I was afraid: am I really going to parade in lingerie at 56? Is this appropriate? Am I bordering on ridiculous? But as soon as I arrived my fear transformed into enthusiasm: what a pleasure to participate in a legendary fashion show that now chooses to include all kinds of women. Women of all ages, shapes and genders”, listed the star, prouder than ever to have overcome her fear to participate in such an event.
