As announced, The Cure lifts the veil on “A Fragile Thing”, second extract from his new album!

Unveiled in preview in the broadcast of Jo Whileand south BBC Radio 2 this Wednesday, October 9, the song is now available on all streaming platforms.

“A Fragile Thing” is a captivating piece of over four minutes that begins with a spectral piano. This delicate introduction builds tension before the bass, drums and guitars swirl around the ever-poignant voice of Robert Smith. The song then evolves into dynamic rock, enriched by a signature guitar line from The Cure. Charged with emotion, the song also seems to resonate with the singer’s personal loss – his mother, his father and his brother – a pain he had previously mentioned as one of the inspirations behind the dark atmosphere of the album to come.

In a press release, Robert Smith describes “A Fragile Thing” as a song “driven by the difficulties we encounter in choosing between mutually exclusive needs, and how we deal with the futile regrets that may result, no matter how sure we were that we had made the right decision. It can be really difficult to become the person you are meant to be.“

Like “Alone,” unveiled two weeks ago, fans had already had a taste of “A Fragile Thing” during the world tour Shows Of A Lost World between 2022 and 2023, where the title was performed live.

With this new extract, two of the eight tracks on the tracklisting are already revealed.
