Pontarlier. Pontarlier metal band Assigned Fate releases its second album

And here is Assigned Fate again! The leading figure of the Haut- metal scene has delivered a second album entitled Abyssal Outcasts composed of six tracks that really kick ass. Formed by a group of friends in Pontarlier in 2014, the band released its first opus in 2018. Since then, the line-up has evolved: Two of the founding members remain, guitarists Côme Brandelet and Jonathan Monnier, to whom Adrien Buschs (drums), Thomas Leclerc (bass) and Benjamin Thomet (vocals) have been added.

Mixed at Downtone Studio in Geneva

“I took over from the two singers in 2021, with my level at the time,” he jokes. “I only had two years of practice behind me and saturated singing is far from easy. But the group had a few concerts planned, including one at Sylak [festival rock et metal qui se tient dans l’Ain : N.D.L.R.] that we really didn’t want to miss.”

Abyssal Outcast has been available to listen to on music platforms and YouTube since September 2nd. An album that could have, should have been released a year earlier but was delayed. “We recorded the guitar, bass and vocals ourselves and the drums at Paul Pourchet’s Medvedkine Studio. It all went well. It was after that we had some problems and the final result didn’t satisfy us.”

The mixing and mastering was finally entrusted to Drop, also a member of the Swiss black metal band Samael, at Downtone Studio in Geneva. “And we did well to wait, he did an incredible job, the result is great” appreciates Benjamin. But how can we describe Assigned Fate’s style? “Progressive metal, tech death (a genre characterized in particular by technical virtuosity in terms of instruments: Editor’s note)… We try different things, which we can group together under the name of “modern metal”.

A physical CD illustrated by Kax

The band will be at the Café du Théâtre on Friday, September 20, not to play live, but to play their album on the “T” jukebox and sign CDs. Because there is indeed a physical CD, almost a work of art created by graphic designer-illustrator Kax. “She was inspired by the lyrics of the final diptych, where I embark on a rewrite of the end of Twenty ThousandLeagues Under the Sea and the video game BioShock. She was able to transcribe its essence with all the talent we know she has.”
