A lawsuit has been filed against Miley Cyrus by the owners of a co-writer’s catalog. When I Was Your Mana title by Bruno Mars which the singer is said to have taken inspiration from.
Did Miley Cyrus Take Inspiration From a Bruno Mars Song When Writing? Flowersher huge hit of 2023? The American singer is being sued by the company Tempo Music Investments, which accuses her of having plagiarized When I Was Your Manthe singer’s title released in 2012.
As Entertainment Weekly reports, the lawsuit was filed Monday, September 16 in Los Angeles. “There is no denying, given the combination and the number of similarities between the two recordings, that Flowers would not exist without When I Was Your Man“, we can read there.
“‘Flowers’ reproduces many melodic, harmonic and textual elements” of the Bruno Mars song, she continues.
Bruno Mars not involved in the complaint
The complaint targets Miley Cyrus, the co-authors of FlowersSony Music and Apple. She is seeking damages, a halt to the distribution of the song and a ban on Miley Cyrus performing it.
Bruno Mars is not involved in the lawsuit. Tempo Music Investments owns the catalog of Philip Lawrence, co-writer of When I Was Your ManIt is in this capacity that the company is suing Miley Cyrus.
