“Maybe One Day…”; David Ellefson Says His Story With Megadeth Isn’t Over

Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson says his story with the band isn’t over. In a recent interview with Sam Acevedo of El Planeta Del Rock, Ellefson was asked about the possible end of his chapter with Megadeth. His answer was clear: “No, it’s never a closed chapter. I helped found this band. I was there from the beginning. My heart and soul is in these songs. You’ll hear it forever.”

For Ellefson, his contribution to Megadeth goes far beyond his stage presence. “This way of life, our work ethic, all of this has influenced me forever. It’s a part of me.”he added. Even though he no longer shares the stage with Megadeth, he refuses to close the door on a future return: “It wasn’t my idea to [quitter le groupe]. So why close doors? Maybe one day… we’ll see.”

A tumultuous departure

In 2021, Ellefson was fired from Megadeth after explicit messages and videos were posted on Twitter. The incident marked the end of his second stint with the band, after first leaving in 2002 and returning in 2010. Despite the controversy surrounding his departure, Ellefson says he is at peace with the situation. “When I left, a lot of people were like, ‘This is terrible.’ But honestly, it wasn’t,” he confided in a June 2023 interview with the Scars And Guitars podcast. “I knew a new journey awaited me and it couldn’t begin until I was out of the old one.”
