It’s an understatement to say that Dua Lipa’s return was eventful. In November 2023, while her hit “Dance the Night” for the film “Barbie” was still a hit, the popstar opened the third chapter of her career with “Houdini”, an intoxicating disco-pop track by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. In order to get ahead of the summer season, it was on May 3, 2024 that the public was able to discover “Radical Optimism”, the superstar’s third album which she describes as a remedy for the ambient gloom. “ My album is very sunny. It’s an album made for dancing and having fun in the summer. (…) The place I prefer to listen to it is in my bedroom » she proclaims on the microphone of Fun Radio. However, fans were disconcerted between clips with radically different artistic directions and an album ultimately far from the initial inspirations, the artist having evoked the British rave or trip-hop scene with groups like Massive Attack or Primal Scream.

“Radical Optimism” plus fort que “Future Nostalgia” !

However, it was a success, particularly in where the album went straight to number one in the charts with 19,500 sales. And Dua Lipa was able to count on enormous radio support since the singles “Houdini” and “Training Season” remained at the top of the airplay for 10 and 8 weeks respectively! Although many believe that “Radical Optimism” is off to a less flamboyant start to its career than “Future Nostalgia”, the figures tend to prove the opposite. Indeed, the album has just surpassed the 100,000 sales mark in France, allowing it to obtain a platinum disc in eight and a half months. It took a little over 10 months for “Future Nostalgia” to reach this milestone, even if this record had suffered the vagaries of the Covid pandemic.

However, it will be difficult for “Radical Optimism” to catch up with the hit machine “Future Nostalgia”, which sold 480,000 copies in France thanks to the hits “Love Again”, “Levitating” or “Fever” with Angèle. Indeed, if “Illusion” did not make a splash in the charts last summer, Dua Lipa has focused since November on the soaring “These Walls” as her fourth single. All enhanced by a duet with Pierre de Maere for French-speaking countries, but again without touching the top places in the rankings around the world. The English star will soon resume his “Radical Optimism Tour” world tour. In France, the “Don’t Start Now” singer will give four concerts at the LDLC Arena in and at the La Défense Arena between May 15 and 24.
