Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, Venus, Saturn are the six planets visible from Earth during the planetary alignment from January 20 to 25, 2025. This is an astronomical phenomenon where the planets are placed next to each other in the Earth’s line of sight. So, they are not on a straight line strictly speaking but form an arc of a circle.
To see them, you will have to watch for clearings and as soon as the sun sets, the planets will appear. According to the Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, the show begins at 6:30 p.m. in Nice, 6:50 p.m. in Paris and 7:10 p.m. in Brest. Four planets are visible to the naked eye : Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. To see Uranus and Neptune, which are further away, you need binoculars.
To find your way, in the sky find the brightest point (after the moon) -it’s Venus- and then you will see the other five around. Mars has an orange tint. As a reminder, a sparkling point is not a planet, it is a star. A planet does not shine.
To best observe them, choose dark corners and stay away from brightly lit cities. Position yourself high up, avoiding the hindrance of large trees or tall buildings. And if the weather does not allow you to attend this show, there is a make-up session: on February 28, and there seven planets will be aligned : Mercury will also be there!
