The attack took place in a public park.
Saturday January 11, a 44-year-old woman jogging was violently attacked with a knife. The events took place in Vergèze, a town of 6,000 inhabitants, located in Gard, near Nîmes.
This attack sadly revives the feeling of ordeal of the joggers in the face of attacks and feminicides, which we spoke to you about in this article.
The suspect still at large
The jogger was taken by surprise and attacked from behind, while she was running on the village fitness trail at the end of the morning, reported our colleagues from the regional media Ici (formerly France 3).

“The vital prognosis of the victim, quickly taken care of due to two people nearby, initially engaged, has now stabilized”affirmed Cécile Gensac, Prosecutor of the Nîmes judicial court, the day after the attack.
However, the attacker has still not been identified. To this day (January 15), he is still on the run, and the police are working to gather clues.
Residents' concerns
Enough to raise serious concerns among the residents of the town. In a report broadcast by the media Ici on January 13, several of them showed a certain fear. “I know some who will no longer come to the woods”says a sixty-year-old. “Is this a gratuitous crime or a malicious act?” asks another retiree. And to continue: “It remains very anxiety-inducing, we close our doors and then we wonder if the person has left and where they are above all.”
Not far from Vergèze Park, the management of the village college shares these anxieties. The PE classes usually taking place in the green space have been canceled, and the parents of the students have received instructions “not to let their children move around alone”, we learn in the report.
The mayor of Vergèze, for her part, tried to reassure the inhabitants of her town: “I reaffirm that Vergèze is a peaceful village, that this is an isolated act”she wanted to clarify. Before concluding with the media Here: “I ask people to show moderation, decency, and to wait”.
