“We’re going to love each other” will no longer have the same flavor. As the L’Informé website reveals, Gilbert Montagné was convicted in Italy of plagiarism for his essential hit. The French artist was accused of being very strongly inspired by Gianni Nazzro’s song, “Une fille de France”.
“We’re going to love each other” is no longer in Gilbert Montagné
The lyricist of the title who always lights up the dance floor in the middle of the night during birthdays or weddings, Didier Barbelivien, was also condemned.
Consequence: the two artists are now deprived of royalties. No more pennies will fall into their pockets. A decision which was confirmed last October by the French courts. The Paris Court of Appeal recognized that the exploitation rights for “On va s’aimer” will now revert to Italian artists.
Gilbert Montagné and Didier Barbelivien ordered to pay damages
Initially, Gianni Nazzro and the composer of “Une fille de France” had claimed more than 1.7 million euros in damages. Finally, Gilbert Montagné and Didier Barbelivien must pay 30,000 euros for this and obviously no longer claim a single euro for this legendary title.
And as the Figaro website reminds us in particular, this story is a real shame for the artist. In 2009, he had the restaurant chain Flunch convicted of… plagiarism. “We’re going to love each other” had become “We’re going to flirt”. 30,000 euros in damages were received by the interpreter of “Sunlight of the Tropics”.
