Nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in Emilia PerezSelena Gomez was present at the Academy women’s luncheon organized by Chanel. An event during which the 32-year-old actress delivered a speech evoking the loneliness inherent to the profession and the status it confers.

“I know from experience how isolating this industry can be, but moments like this, rooms like this, and speaking with all these incredible women remind me that I’m not alone, that we’re not alone,” she declared in front of an audience including Ariana Grande, Amy Adams and Gal Gadot.

Humor as a remedy

A loneliness that Selena Gomez fights with laughter.

“I know people say it’s a defense mechanism, but I think it’s a great distraction from ambient noise. Just laughing with your friends or doing something that can bring a little light,” she explained to People. An approach that is visibly paying off for the ex-Disney star who could well walk away with a Golden Globe next January!
