French singer Gilbert Montagné was convicted, accused of plagiarizing the song “Une fille de France” performed by Gianni Nazzaro, with its famous title “On va s’aimer”.
He and Didier Barbelivien, lyricist, will no longer receive a cent for this song, a real hit for the blind artist.
The affair began in France in 2009, confirmed in 2012. But then it was unsuccessful, Montagné and Barbelivien being supported by SACEM (Society of Authors, Composers and Music Publishers).
For more than ten years the singer and the lyricist refused to pay the rights to their music to Michel Cywie and Jean-Max Rivière, the two authors of Italian song.
But Gianni Nazzaro and his friends took Montagné, Barbelivien, their publishing companies and Sacem to court, demanding in particular 1.67 million euros in copyright arrears.
On October 9, the Paris Court of Appeal ruled in their favor, reveals “Le Figaro”. Gilbert Montagné and Didier Barbelivien, for their part, must renounce their royalties permanently. And pay 30,000 euros in damages.
