Tax holiday: here are the products that will be exempt from GST this winter

The Trudeau government is giving a two-month Goods and Services Tax (GST) holiday this winter for many goods.

Here is a list of products that will be exempt from GST from December 14 to February 15, 2025:

  • Restaurant meals
  • Beers, wines and ciders with less than 7% alcohol sold in grocery stores
  • Snacks (chips, candy and granola bars)
  • Desserts, including cakes, pastries, tartlets, cookies, donuts and croissants
  • Soft drinks, fruit juice drinks
  • Bottled water
  • The books
  • Printed newspapers, magazines and calendars
  • Natural and artificial Christmas trees
  • Certain children’s toys, including video game consoles, puzzles, dolls, construction sets and board games
  • Children’s clothing and shoes
  • Car seats for children
  • Layers
  • Pre-prepared foods, such as vegetable platters, salads and sandwiches
