David Hallyday reaches out to his sisters Jade and Joy: “if they want”

On the occasion of the release of his new album “Requiem for a fool”David Hallyday spoke in the show “50 Minutes Inside” broadcast on TF1 this Saturday, June 22, 2024. Johnny Hallyday’s eldest son addressed his complex relationships with his little sisters, Jade and Joy, in a tense family context for several years.

A musical tribute full of emotions

Seven years after the death of Johnny Hallyday, David chose to pay tribute to him with an album featuring his father’s greatest hits, as well as some of his own tracks. “For me, this project is very important, because it partly touches on my father’s catalog, a catalog that is more than fifty years old.”he confided to us.

Among the 19 tracks on the album, we find songs emblematic of the father-son relationship, such as “Blood for blood” And “Mirador“, written by David for Johnny, but also pieces that take on a particular resonance today, like “You didn’t give me time.”

One song in particular caught the attention: “Laura“, written by Jean-Jacques Goldman in 1986 to celebrate the birth of David’s half-sister. “Laura was one of the songs that I really wanted to do, because my sister is very attached to this song, she is very attached to it”, confided David. “I wanted to achieve this title for her and make her proud of it.” A gesture which seems to have touched Laura Smet, who shared her emotion on Instagram by thanking her brother.

An opening message for Jade and Joy

During his passage in “50 Minutes Inside“, David Hallyday was questioned about his relationships with Jade and Joy, the adopted daughters of Johnny and Laeticia Hallyday. Despite the tensions which persist since the conflict over Johnny’s inheritance, the 57-year-old singer gave a speech of openness and hope.

Asked if he would like his little sisters to listen to his tribute album, David candidly responded: “Yes, if they want to, we can’t force people. If it’s something that interests them, of course.“He then added: “I think they need to grow up a little and have a little perspective and life experience. If they want it, I’ll be there, and then, if they don’t want it, I’ll still be there the day they want it!”

Words which demonstrate a desire to renew ties, while respecting the time necessary for everyone to heal the wounds of the past.

A painful past to overcome

Relations within the Hallyday family have been particularly tense since Johnny’s death in December 2017. The conflict over the rocker’s inheritance has widened a gap between David and Laura on one side, and Laeticia, Jade and Joy on the other. the other.

In December 2023, Jade and Joy spoke in the columns of Paris Match, making harsh remarks about their older brother : “In Saint-Barth’, David and Laura had made us beautiful promises, assuring us that they would always be there, that we could count on them, that we would see each other often. And then they were barely- They left, we never heard from them directly again. I experienced it as abandonment.”

Questioned about these statements in April 2024 by Le Parisien, David admitted: “I think it’s a shame to involve children so young in things like that, whether in any family. I’m talking about my little sisters and that’s up to me.”
