Desireless “exhausted with fatigue”: Stone opens up about the end of her career and her health concerns

Who says Desireless, says 80s. With its title Travel, travel and her androgynous look, which became one of the signatures of the era, the singer conquered the whole of Europe. If she quickly found success and left her mark on an entire generation, Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop, her real name, now stays away from rhinestones and sequins. For several years, the 71-year-old artist has led a discreet life in her country house.

Recently invited on the set of the show Chez Jordan on C8, Stone, close friend of Desireless, gave some reassuring news. “Claudie is in her campaign, in her own things. She no longer wants to return to the profession”she confides. Before explaining that over the years, the singer was confronted with health concerns which greatly influenced her decision to retire: “She has a little trouble walking. When you get older, you sometimes have to lose weight. Weight plays a big role in all that”.

Desirelss “couldn't take it anymore and the job”

Stone continues by saluting his journey: “She's a wonderful woman, she has incredible talent. She's a woman's sweetheart.” Asked about the end of her friend's career, the artist declared: “I think after a while she got fed up. She had fallen on tour. On the way to the hotel she really hurt herself and opened her mouth. She was exhausted tired. She couldn't take it anymore and the job is not easy.”.

Since retiring in 1995, Desireless has embraced a lifestyle far from the spotlight. Cultivating a garden, exploring spirituality or engaging in simple hobbies, she seems to have found a balance away from touring and recording studios. Although she does not wish to revive her career, her title Travel, travel continues to cross generations with 208 million streams on Spotify and a presence in contemporary works like the award-winning film Compartment No. 6. Despite this success, the artist does not live off his royalties. “It’s not the few albums I produce that nourish me, she confided in 2018. If I were the author and composer, I would be very rich. But I’m just the interpreter.”
