Michel Sardou is known as much for his timeless musical successes as for his strong character.
At 76 years old, the interpreter of The Sickness of Love et Connemara Lakes does not take half measures, neither in his words, nor in his positions. With an often caustic frankness, he remains faithful to his convictions, even if it means stirring up controversy.
A provocative artist, he was recently controversial because of a clumsy joke about women and consent.
A joke that doesn’t work
“I’m going to sing you a song that we couldn’t write today“, he said in the middle of a concert on March 16 before performing I’m going to love you.
And to continue: “I took advantage of it but for the young people of now, it’s not going to be easy. A young man who places his hand without consent on a woman’s hand is in direct custody. If he has the audacity to want to put his hand elsewhere, it’s Fleury-Mérogis (the prison)!“Remarks which unfortunately did not please everyone.
“I was shocked by his comments on consent. In 2024, we can no longer talk like that. Maybe it’s not bad after all that he retires“, was particularly outraged by a fan in the columns of the newspaper The Parisian.
Michel Sardou difficult to live with?
Michel Sardou has always wanted to escape political correctness, refusing to conform to everyone’s expectations. Even in privacy, he does not try to adapt to those around him.
Whether in his professional, family or friendly relationships, the artist remains faithful to his opinions, even if it means sometimes being intransigent.
Guest of Sarah Lecoeuvre and Damien Canivez on the set of Buzz TV this Wednesday, November 13, 2024, Christine Haas, the singer’s ex-sister-in-law, spoke about the latter’s personality.
“He’s an Aquarius like me, he’s January 26, so I said to myself: ‘Hey, my sister married me.’ We never argued, but Michel is not easy when we don’t do things the way he thinks we should do them… He really has character“, she explained. Revelations which may not please the person concerned.
