Barely a year after his last album, Calogero unveils (already) a new CD to his fans entitled X. A title which was not chosen at random since it is the number “ten” in Roman. This album is, in fact, the tenth by the 53-year-old artist. To talk about it, he was theguest of the show “En aside” on Canal + this Tuesday, November 5. The opportunity to talk about this album released very quickly: “I didn't want to wait. The songs were there” he declared at first.
Among them is track six which bears the name of this album. A difficult song that evokes difficulties encountered by the singer during his schooling. “I was told “you won't do anything with your ten fingers” / The ink bled so much on my notebooks, red like dotted zeros” he intones in this title with very dark tones. Thus, in front of Nathalie Lévy, he declares the reasons why he is so close to her heart: “Regarding the song X, It's not because you don't get a 10 at school that you can't get good grades in life afterward.“ says the father of four children.
It must be said that Calogero's schooling was not easy and the interpreter of Weightless don't hide it. It was not on the school benches that he felt most at ease. A situation that pushed him to commit various crimes.
Calogero: the singer caught red-handed
Now one of the most recognized artists on the French scene, everything started badly for little Calogero. “I was a difficult student, it wasn't a gift to have me in the class“ confided the Franco-Italian in this intimate interview. “Academic failure is a fact but I was still the type to put myself at the back of the class and [à être] a little dissipated“. But it's not just at school that Hortense d'Estève and Marie Bastide's ex slipped up. In the street too, he failed to keep his cool.
“Afterwards, there is inevitably a crossroads, we start to do stupid things“he continued. At this time, he committed his first crimes : “I started stealing the entire Cure collection. At one point, my older brother came to pick me up because I got caught stealing the records.”. A period which does not make the father of Nina, Romy, Pio and Rita proud but he will manage to get by thanks to his older brother.
“My brother François told me: 'What do you want to do? What are you looking for?' And that, it was a very important day. That was exactly what I needed to be told.”confided Calogero delighted not to have sunk a little more, delighted not to have “flipped to the other side“. “Then there are drugs, there are more serious things. And fortunately, there was music.”. Proof of this is that despite the difficulties, it is possible to get through it. Calogero is proof of this.
