We now know the casting of Dexter: Original Sinthe new spin-off and prequel series of Dexter.
Despite its much criticized finale, Dexter has established itself as one of the most notable series of the 2000s, as much for the performance of Michael C. Hall, as its music or its cult credits. The friendliest serial killer returned in 2021 with the revival Dexter: New Blood which corrected the situation after the infamous season 8.
A season 2 of Dexter: New Blood was expected, but was finally canceled in early 2023. In the process, we learned that other projects were in discussion, starting with a prequel series produced by Showtime and centered on the youth of Dexter Morgan, seen so far in flashback. We could therefore wonder if Clyde Phillips (one of the main screenwriters of Dexter And New Blood and showrunner of Dexter: New Blood) was going to be back, and above all who could replace Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter (Debra) or James Remar (Harry).
We now have the answer since the cast of Dexter: Original Sin (as it was named) was revealed.

According to The Hollywood ReporterPatrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone, The O.A.), Christian Slater (Dr. Death, Dirty John, True Romance) and Molly Brown (Lost Girls, Senior Year) joined the cast of Dexter: Original Sin. The former will take over the title role, while Slater will play Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father, and Brown his sister, Debra Morgan. We also know that Clyde Phillips will return as showrunner for the series, which should be broadcast in France on Paramount+.
The new Dexter
Scenario level, Original Sin will take place in 1991 in Miami and will follow the transformation of Dexter as a “responsible” serial killer. With his father’s advice, Dexter will learn the code, that is to say the set of rules to follow in order to kill without being caught. This is also when he will begin his forensic pathology internship with the Miami Police Department.
On the other hand, we do not yet know whether or not this prequel will ignore the twisted revelations of season 8, in which we learned that Harry had designed this famous code with Evelyn Vogel, a neuropsychiatrist played at the time by Charlotte Rampling. Nor if Harry’s wife or Dexter’s biological mother will appear in flashbacks or otherwise.
No release date has been revealed either.
