Will Quebecers win the Canada’s Got Talent television competition for a third consecutive time? This is what the duo Mat & Mym are hoping for, who reached the grand final with their second performance broadcast on Tuesday. “It would be a Source of pride, we want to continue the tradition,” they say.

The acrobatic skaters Mat & Mym (real names Mathieu Cloutier and Myriam Lessard) feared having to withdraw, a few days before the grand finale of the show which will be recorded live on May 14.

Mym dislocated her shoulder two months ago during a show in the United States. Result: it had to be completely stopped, until very recently.

“We were very afraid of not being able to make the final. I barely healed my shoulder. We only had two days to rehearse. So, we are proud to have reached the final, but we are even more so, because our last few weeks have not been easy,” explains the young woman from Quebec.

Winning this edition could earn them the first grand prize of one million dollars. Previous Quebec winners were Jeanick Fournier, in 2022 and the Conversion dance troupe from Trois-Rivières, in 2023

Romantic semi-final

After landing a Golden Buzzer in their first audition, the pair opted for a more romantic number to prove to the judges they could mix it up.

Dressed in white, they exchanged a rose throughout this performance focusing on intimacy, the softness of the piano music and the palpable bond uniting them. “We don’t pretend, it’s a deep part of who we are,” confides the couple who have been together for ten years.

“It was still very acrobatic and fast, but with different movements. The flavor was more lyrical and romantic. We also increased the degree of difficulty,” they explain.

The craziest moment? The incredible rotation of Myriam hanging on to her partner by the neck with a strap, while the latter is… blindfolded!

“It’s all a question of trusting my body,” says Martin Lessard, originally from Gaspé.

This portion of the number stunned the judges.

“This has never been done”

They are obviously keeping secret the details of the number they will present during the final show which will bring together the eight finalists.

As this time it will be a matter of compiling the votes of the public, Mat & Mym wish to bring together as many people as possible behind them, in particular the Quebec public.

“We want to touch people, not just do acrobatics. This final will be completely different with several disciplines in our number. Seeing the combination of all these skills, it’s never been done. We dared,” they say, visibly impatient to show off this long-deliberate number.

The 15-year-old Quebec singer, Jade Mathieu, finished her journey during this semi-final.

-The final of Canada’s Got Talent will be presented on May 14 at 8 p.m. on Citytv.
