Slimane today has the heavy task of represent France in the grand final of the Eurovision song contest which will take place this weekend, May 11. A consecration for the 34-year-old singer who always wanted to participate in this competition, he who proclaimed his desire to represent France in the competition for several years. On this occasion, W9 planned the broadcast of a documentary which is dedicated to the singer and which is called “Slimane The Conqueror”. A documentary which notably retraces the beginnings of his career, for example the different castings passed by the future star for several TV shows.
The least we can say is that Slimane’s beginnings in the music industry were anything but easy. In 2007, the young man, then aged 18 only, introduces himself in front of the jury of the show “Popstar”, broadcast at the time by the channels of the M6 group. A jury at the time composed of Mia Frye, Benjamin Chulvanij, Sébastien Farran and Ophélie Winter. In front of the 4 big heavyweights of the industry at the time, Slimane’s hearing went rather badly as we can see in the extract shared by the W9 channel on its social networks.
While Slimane has just resumed “Fallin'” by Alicia Keysproducer Benjamin Chulvanij begins to tackle him: “He only sang in English, that doesn’t interest me”. The young singer will then perform “The Hymn to Love” by Edith Piaf, which still does not suit the producer: “I wouldn’t take it anyway. I have to make a record and today, my role is to be president of the jury and it is also to release a record”.
He will go even further after Slimane decides to leave the set, disappointed: “You see, you can’t stand the pressure already”. A sequence to rediscover and which can serve as motivation for the artist in you: believe in what you do, give it your all, no matter what the “experts” say.
