“I stopped reading what people say online. It doesn’t help me at all”; In Flames’ Anders Fridén refutes voluntary return to basics on Foregone

In Flames, the iconic Swedish Metal band, aroused the enthusiasm of their fans with their 14th studio album, Foregone, released on February 10, 2023. Acclaimed by critics and praised by the public, Foregone marked an important milestone in the trajectory of the group.

Aware of the feeling that Foregone represents a return to roots, particularly noticed by the specialized media, singer Anders Fridén responded to these perceptions during a recent interview on Loudwire Nights.

Fridén, known for his frankness, shared his views on fans’ interpretation of Foregone, who see it as a nostalgic throwback to In Flames’ old sound. “I hear this here and there”admitted Fridén, “but I stopped reading what people say online. This doesn’t help me at all.”

Refuting the idea of a deliberate return, Fridén emphasized: “I never felt like I had lost my way. The music we make is the music we want to make, so it’s never been a question of ‘Oh my God, we’re lost, what should we do?’ But of course we are known for our mix of melody and aggression – it’s our DNA.”

Beyond the perception of their musical orientation, Fridén looked into their personal inspirations, their touring plans and the passion that fuels In Flames’ journey.
