Guest of LCI this Sunday, the Minister of the Economy returned to his controversial statements on the Russian economy made 2022.

“I persist and sign”, affirmed Bruno Le Maire, in reference to his sentence: “We are going to cause the collapse of the Russian economy”.

According to him, only “the war is driving the Russian economy.”

A sentence which further strained relations between and after the start of the war in . On March 1, 2022, a few days after ’s decision to invade Ukraine, Bruno Le Maire attracted wrath, particularly from Moscow, by asserting that France would “causing the collapse of the Russian economy”. The minister specifically points to a “military dependency”. “Their growth is driven by the manufacturing of cannons and munitions. Is that how you prepare a nation for the future?”

According to the former deputy for Eure, Russia “does not invest in innovation, research or artificial intelligence”. “War is what drives the Russian economy.”regrets Bruno Le Maire, according to whom Western sanctions against the regime of Vladimir Putin “are effective”. “They force Russia to have excessive military spending”he believes. “Mr. Putin’s decisions are putting the Russian people in the hands of China.”
