A voice, THE voice! Celine Dion gave a long interview to Vogue this Monday. Embellished with fashion photos where we can see her alternately wearing huge outfits from the biggest fashion houses or “topless”, the interview addresses the daily life of the artist who has been transformed since the discovery of her pathology. The 56-year-old Quebecer suffers from stiff person syndrome (SPR) which affects her nervous system, resulting in progressive “rigidity” of the limbs but also of the trunk with spasms.

A return not yet on the agenda

I didn’t fight the disease, it is still in me and forever. We will find, I hope, a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but I must learn to live with it, she testifies in Vogue. Five days a week I do athletic, physical and vocal therapy. I work on my toes as much as my knees, calves, fingers, singing, voice… This is the condition with which I must learn to live now by stopping questioning myself. “

Celine Dion says that today, she “is fine“but emphasizes that living with this syndrome, “it’s a lot of work. It’s one day at a time“. A rhythm of life which forces her to stay away from the stage, she who began her career – already – more than 40 years ago. In recent months, the singer has been obliged to cancel performances much to the chagrin of fans.

And for her “comeback”, the artist prefers to remain cautious. “I can’t answer you. Because for four years, I told myself that I wouldn’t go back, that I’m ready, that I’m not ready… Today, I can’t tell you: ‘Yes, in four months. ‘ I don’t know… My body will tell me. On the other hand, I don’t want to just wait. It’s morally hard to live from day to day, breathes Celine Dion. It’s difficult, I’m working very hard and tomorrow will be even more difficult. Tomorrow is another day. But there is one thing that will never stop, and that is wanting. It’s the passion. This is the dream. It’s determination.”.

To fight against the “SPR”, Celine Dion salutes the support of all those close to her, the “love” of her family and her fans. “People who suffer from PRS may not have the chance or the means to have good doctors or good treatments. I have these means, I have this gift. Plus, I have this strength in me. I know nothing’s going to stop me.”
