RMC SportAltice has decided to sell its RMC and BFM channels to CMA CGM but one channel is not part of the agreement, RMC Sport. The latter would be very important for the group’s other subsidiary, SFR.

In the sale of the RMC and BFM channels to the shipowner Rodolphe Saadé, the RMC Sport channel will be missing. Patrick Drahi’s group will keep her under control since she would be an asset for SFR.

A loss that could lead to a high churn rate

This channel launched in 2016 under the name SFR Sport would serve as “commercial bait” or a reason to stay for the operator in the red square according to Le Monde. The channel has a total of one million customers, a large proportion of whom come from SFR, the channel is directly accessible on the box and is also less expensive for the operator’s customers.

The channel is included in certain subscriptions and a potential shutdown on the part of the new buyer could ultimately be disastrous for SFR which would no longer control the schedule.

Especially since if the channel were to disappear, certain customers would then find themselves released from their commitment to SFR and the unsubscription rate could increase. SFR is in a delicate position by already losing customers and cannot afford the luxury of losing more.

The Altice group will continue to manage the channel’s sports rights but all visual production will go to CMA CGM, which will then resell the service to SFR. The operator will also pay money to use the RMC brand to its new owner.

Never profitable, the channel would become so from next year but this will come at the cost of losing the rights to broadcast the Champions League, to see if the subscribers will remain despite the channel’s shift towards football sports. fight.
