Télé-Leisure: What state of mind are you in before replacing Bruce Toussaint?
Maud Descamps: I told Thierry Thuillier that I liked being a joker in Telematin. So I’m delighted that he trusts me.

Have you taken any tests?
Yes, at the end of March. What was funny was that I had to adjust the height of Bruce’s chair because he is very tall [1,92 m, ndlr] although I am 1.64 m tall. When I sat down in his place, I almost found myself with the desk under my chin! Next to him, we all look small. [Elle rit.]

Did Bruce Toussaint give you any advice?
He told me to pay attention to my speech and to speak more or less quickly depending on the information I give on the air. The hardest part is having the driver in mind. The mechanics of the program are essential because it allows you to be in a mood show.

Three months ago, we didn’t exist! Everyone says it’s struggling but I don’t agree. Over one year, the box’s audience increased by more than 60% [elle est passée de 5 à 8,5% en moyenne, ndlr] and above all, we see that we are building something. Setting up a morning is a marathon and I have confidence. It’s a chance to be part of the gang.

Mother of twins, doesn’t your life as a morning person encroach too much on your family life?
I get up every morning at 5:00 a.m. It is true that I have breakfast more with my colleagues than with my children, but it does not matter. Their dad drops them off at school in the morning and I pick them up at 4:30 p.m. at the exit. I have dinner with them, I put them to bed… I have incredible quality time with them, and that’s great.
