Valtteri Bottas is not worried about the long-term future of Mercedes F1. The one who returned to the team as a reserve and third driver for the 2025 season is convinced that his team has passed the trough of the wave, and that he will be able to return to the forefront.
“Yes, I think like everyone else, maybe I didn't expect the difficulties they've had since then. But yes, this sport goes through cycles.” Bottas told Motorsport Week. “Now I feel like there are signs that they are coming back.”
“They sometimes put in great performances, but they are still very dependent on the track. But yes, I know how much Toto wants to get back to winning ways. So I think they will get there in the end.”
Bottas does not hide the fact that he would like this position at Mercedes to reopen the doors to F1 for him as a starter, in a customer team of the German manufacturer: “Of course I have to try to think about what’s best for me and that’s a valid point.”
“There are a lot of Mercedes-powered cars on the grid that can suddenly bring opportunities. And in this sport you never know what's going to happen. There's also 2026 where things can happen. I think that I'm still willing to stay in the game, let's say, and try to find a way to come back.”
