Lionkklash cultivates the credo: evolve, learn and share.
He has several strings to his bow: singer, composer, poet, dancer, slammer and radio host. Real name Ravaton James Clovis Stephan, Lionkklash is an essential figure in the Mauritian art scene. From his debut as a dancer in 1992 with the group Ghetto Boyz to his performances alongside the biggest names in local and international music, Lionkklash has evolved and renewed himself throughout his career. This year, it is towards the realization of a show project entitled Rap And Lapo that the latter turns.
Lionkklash discovered writing and music within the tandem 102 Rébellion in 2002, which marked a decisive turning point in his career. His sharp pen and his stage performances quickly propelled him into the spotlight. The year 2004 was that of his revelation with the title Times Are Harda poignant duet with Marie Michelle Perrine. Since then, he has multiplied collaborations and tours, exploring various facets of artistic expression, notably with groups like Fusional Mind, Philippe Thomas Syndicate and Babani Sound System. He never limited himself to one discipline. His commitment goes beyond the musical framework: he is also an educator, using his art as a vector of inspiration and learning for young people. His projects include therapeutic slam, workshops for young people in difficulty and even awareness campaigns, such as his committed music video Long live love so greatin favor of LGBTQ rights.
As 2025 begins, Lionkklash displays a desire to continue learning to make an ambitious dream come true. “I will continue to acquire the knowledge necessary to realize this dream. Learning is essential in my journey”he confides. What about slam, this area where the latter still excels with his Anset text among many others? “The level of young slammers today is impressive. I’m not looking to compete, but to contribute and learn from them.”he explains with humility. “The young people are too strong.” At the same time, Lionkklash is focusing on a project he has been working on for three years: Rap And Lapoa show that promises to marry the power of rap with immersive theatrical staging. This project embodies his artistic vision, combining his musical experience, his storytelling talents and his desire to experiment with new formats.
Lionkklash continues to draw inspiration from every experience, whether collaborations, travel or training. With a journey full of challenges and significant successes, he remains faithful to his credo: evolve, learn and share.
