Three authors in the running for the FIBD 2025 Grand Prix

Alison Bechdel, Catherine Meurisse and Anouk Ricard are the three finalists for the Grand Prize of the Angoulême International Comic Strip Festival (FIBD). For this 52e edition, the prestigious distinction will therefore be awarded to a woman, information rare enough to deserve to be highlighted.

As our colleagues at Monde in an article published today, in half a century, only four women have been named to this distinction. Only the French Florence Cestac (in 2000), the Japanese Rumiko Takahashi (in 2019), the Canadian Julie Doucet (in 2022) and the British Posy Simmonds (in 2024) were rewarded for all of their work.

Next selection steps

Since 2014, the FIBD Grand Prize has been awarded by a vote of professional comic book authors. The first round, to designate the 2025 winner, ended on January 14. A second round will be held from January 16 to 21, during which voters will choose from the three nominees. The 2025 Grand Prix will be announced the day before the official opening of the festival, on January 28.

The winner will succeed Posy Simmonds. The British author, famous in particular for her albums Gemma Bovary (1999), Tamara Drewe (2007) et Cassandra Darke (2018), was awarded for all of her work at the last festival, in January 2024.
