After Longlegs, a gory and glamorous vampire film for Maika Monroe and Neon

After being the star of the phenomenon LonglegsMaika Monroe is already preparing to star in other horror films including the intriguing Brides for Neon.

Maika Monroe previously starred under director Chloe Okuno in the film Watcherreleased in 2023. The two collaborators are preparing to do it again while Monroe is crowned with the success of Longlegsundoubtedly his most resounding role since It Follows. This new film called Brides sera a vampire film loosely inspired by the world of Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Very interesting news for this project: the distributor Neon has just acquired the distribution rights in the United States. With a strong marketing strategy, Neon has led impressive campaigns for many films in recent years, ensuring them an astonishing impact, as was the case for Parasite, Anatomy of a Fall et… Longlegs. Brides will it be the future phenomenon made in Neon?

Them again??

Maika Monroe in Neon Light

The story of Brides takes place in the 1960s and in Italy. Sally Bishop, played by Maika Monroe, goes to isolate herself in a villa with her husband to recover from severe depression. But the owner of the villa in question is none other thana mysterious count with long teethwho begins to have a crush on Sally… without realizing that the young woman is quickly create chaos in his harem of vampire brides.

The universe of Dracula has been on the rise in recent years, as proven by films like The Last Voyage of Demeter, Renfield or Nosferatu by Robert Eggers (which have the merit of belonging to radically different genres). But Chloe Okuno's modern proposal will perhaps succeed in doing well, with his style announced as gothic, glamor and gore at the same time.

Soon Maika Monroe in place of Lily-Rose Depp

The other ace up the film's sleeve, which has just been revealed by DeadlineIt is the acquisition of its distribution rights in North America by Neon. Not that the films distributed in the United States by Neon are systematically hits, far from it (The Lodge, Immaculate, Ferrari and many others), but let's say that the company is still associated with some of the best marketing campaigns of recent yearsand has a knack for getting his hands on hot films.

After their victory, it is Neon's lobbying that Parasite et Anatomy of a Fall owe their victory in part to the Oscars, knowing that in 2024, Neon has also acquired the rights to the new prize: Anora. With unstoppable social media strategies and impressive strike force at the level of negotiations for the Oscars, the distributor seems to regularly choose a film from its catalog on which it will bet everything until taking it to the top.

The open ending: the starting point of the Anatomy of a Fall buzz on the networks

Without going through the and Oscars stages, this is still what happened for Longlegsof which Maika Monroe was already the star. With a real phenomenon created on social networks from enigmatic imagespromotion was carried out essentially on a parallel circuit. But it paid off handsomely, since Longlegs brought in 127 million dollars after having cost only 10, and held the high ground for a good number of blockbusters which were collected at the same time, in the summer of 2024.

It would therefore seem that after the very confidential WatcherChloe Okuno's next film is in good hands, and the fact that Neon has set its sights on it gives hope that the film will be as original and interesting as the best pieces in their catalog. However, there is no guarantee that the distributor will deploy for Brides the same means as for his greatest successes, nor that the film will work whatever happens. But we are not safe from a future small horrific phenomenon either.

In the meantime, for those who thirst for vampires, Nosferatu by Robert Eggers will be released in theaters this December 25.
