Saturday December 21, 2024, after multiple interventions in support of the requests of the victims, Cannes obtained recognition of the state of natural disaster “floods and mudslides” following the violent bad weather of September 23 which fell on the municipality. David Lisnard called on the State services on multiple occasions to argue the merits of the request and denounce the excessively long delay in decision-making, to the detriment of the affected residents, traders and craftsmen.
Finally, after the personal interventions of the mayor of Cannes with the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, the interministerial decree was published on December 21 in the Official Journal . From then on, victims have thirty days to report their claim to their insurance and establish a precise list of the damage suffered and the lost or damaged property.

As a reminder, on September 23, 2024, the town of Cannes was affected by very intense bad weather. In just twenty minutes, 50 mm of rain was recorded and enormous quantities of water also coming from upstream which poured onto the Boulevard de la République. An intensity comparable – fortunately over a shorter duration – to that observed during the deadly floods of October 3, 2015. However, no red or orange alert was triggered by Météo-France. Thanks to the responsiveness of municipal and intercommunal services and the good reflexes of local residents, no casualties were reported.

Immediately after the storm, Cannes Town Hall implemented specific actions and systems to provide assistance to residents and traders in the area. David Lisnard had requested recognition of the state of natural disaster the same day from the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes – supporting photographs of the disaster – to allow the damage suffered by those affected to be taken care of.
