The 2024 cinema vintage was another great vintage! Among the highlights of this year, the return behind the camera of an American filmmaker particularly appreciated by film buffs: Jeff Nichols, to whom we owe in particular Take Shelter, Mud: on the banks of the Mississippi or even Midnight Special. 8 years after his last achievement, Loving (inspired by a moving true story), the director therefore draws the heavy artillery to The Bikeriders, his new film released in June 2024 and broadcast this Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 9:10 p.m. Starring: Tom Hardy, Austin Butler (Elvis), Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon or even Norman Reedus, the iconic Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead. In short, it’s heavy!
The Bikeriders, a true story
In The BikeridersJeff Nichols delivers the formidable chronicle of a country then in the midst of cultural and social upheavals by taking us into the deep America of the 1960s. We then follow the character of Kathy who falls in love with Benny, an attractive young man member of a gang of bikers. But the latter gradually sinks into violence and banditry… A story freely inspired by the photo book entitled The Bikeriders et published in 1967 by American photographer Danny Lyon, played by Mike Faist in the film.
“I love playing with accents“: Jodie Comer talks to us about her role in The Bikeriders
In addition to the writing and directing, the feature film also stands out for the incredible performance of British actress Jodie Comer (Killing Eve). She literally bursts the screen, to the point of stealing the spotlight from her playing partners Tom Hardy and Austin Butler. A remarkable performance that we owe in particular to her remarkable work on the deep American accent, which she takes for the purposes of her role as Kathy. And if she nevertheless encountered some difficulties in the exercise as revealed by our colleagues atAllocinated, the actress confided to Tele-Leisure “love playing with accents, especially when they are necessary to the story of a work.” And to specify: “There is a lot of preparation work to ensure that the result is as natural and credible as possible! And in my job, I like to try new things and work hard to get there“.
