After the superb trilogy, Dragons will soon return to theaters with a live-action remake from DreamWorks.
Disney led the way with its revivals of Cinderella, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin or even The Little Mermaid. Now it’s DreamWorks’ turn to step into the breach with Dragonshis live-action remake of Dean DeBlois’ now cult animated film.
Nobody asked for it, but as it happens, we summarize everything we know about release date, story, cast and trailer.
WILL THERE BE A DRAGON REMAKE?
As surprising as it may seem, yes, DreamWorks is indeed preparing a live-action remake of the first 2010 film. The announcement was made in February 2023. The director of the trilogy, Dean DeBlois, will return to service for the occasion. In November 2024, however, he confided on Instagram that he had signed only to ensure that this remake would be done correctly.
WHEN IS THE DRAGONS REMAKE RELEASE DATE?
Dragons will be released exclusively in cinemas on Friday June 13, 2025 in the United States and Wednesday June 11, 2025 in France.
WHAT WILL DRAGON REMAKE BE ABOUT?
From the same thing as the animated film: Hiccup is the timid and clumsy son of Stoick the brute, the leader of a Viking village regularly attacked by dragons. One evening, Hiccup discovers an injured endangered dragon that he decides to spare. The two gradually form a deep friendship that will change the destiny of everyone, humans and dragons included.
The trailer raised fears of a Disney-style copy and paste, but the director explained in November 2024 on Instagram that the goal was not to repeat everything identically:
“We are not doing a shot-by-shot remake. We just recreated key moments from the original film, which I’m very proud of, to pay homage to it. The teaser reveals some of them. Rather than an entirely new story, we sought to embellish and deepen the one fans love, without abandoning it. »
WHO WILL BE IN THE CAST OF THE DRAGONS REMAKE?
After lending his voice to Stoick in the animated film, Gerard Butler will play the village chief in the flesh. As for the rest of the cast, it has been completely revised (to respect the age of the characters):
