Cis a very simple story, but one of those which, through the grace of their staging, leaves a lasting impression. The story, adapted from the novel by Elisa Shua Dusapin (ed. Zoé), of Soo-Ha, 23, whose routine life in a small seaside town in South Korea will be shaken by the arrival of a mysterious French designer (Roschdy Zem). He's moody, she's bright, they're both a little lost. An ambiguous bond will form between them, off the beaten track, while winter covers the small streets where they speak to each other in whispers.

With this first feature film, made in Korea, the Franco-Japanese Koya Kamura takes us to the side of Ozu and Kore-eda, with, also, some lurches towards animation. His portrait of a young woman (divine Bella Kim) who questions her identity is nothing but delicacy and the discreet power of sensation. A very beautiful film, between light blue and anthracite gray, about filiation and the quest for horizon.

Winter in Sokcho, of Koya Kamura, will be released in theaters on January 8.
