The charismatic character of Professor Keating resurrected in the guise of José Garcia at his best!
Colin returns to a new high school with apprehension. He is always shy because he stutters. Although his handicap slows him down, he falls under the spell of one of his classmates, which pushes him to enroll in the same theater class taught by their French teacher, Mr. Devarseau. The latter will have them prepare Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand.
For those who grew up watching the 1989 film The Circle of Dead Poets, directed by Peter Weir. The resemblance is striking between these two works, so obvious that fans will surely have fun finding the correspondences of the characters and situations throughout the film. So Mr. Keating is Mr. Devarseau, Anne-Cha is Cameron, Maxence is Neil, Nejma is probably Dalton and Colin is Todd in sometimes softer versions. It is with great pleasure that I discovered this rather successful return to nostalgia. The director was able to bring the concerns of teenagers and adults up to date. The drama is less deep and the film less long, but the effect is still sufficient. Teenagers will love it! You don’t need to know The Circle of Disappeared Poets to appreciate Le Panache, even if your cinematic culture remains shaky without this masterpiece from the 1980s. In terms of the panorama of current French comedy, this film is a breath of cheerful air and essential to embrace the spirit of teenagers of the 21stth century. Not to be missed!
