Tron 3aka Tron : Aresreveals itself a little more with a new image, while the director promises a truly different sequel.
Despite its (relative) failure at the box office upon its release in 2010, Tron: Legacy has gained a certain cult status, just like the first film from 1982. In addition to having revealed to the world the director Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun : Maverick), Tron: Legacy was especially remembered for its legendary soundtrack, composed by Daft Punk.
From then on, Disney tried to renew the franchise 15 years later with Tron : Areswhich will have the main character named Ares (Jared Leto), a Grid program that will land in the “real” world. Even though the return of Jeff Bridges was confirmed in this Tron 3le film de Joachim Rønning (Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Maleficent 2) should mainly rely on new characters and new issues, as revealed by the filmmaker’s first information.
To Tron or rightly
Empire revealed an exclusive image of Tron : Areswith the protagonist in his armor accompanied by some sort of ship. But above all, Joachim Rønning insisted on the particular identity of this suitesince it will be based on the opposite discovery of a new world for the main character.
For the filmmaker, this difference will depend a lot on the music, this time entrusted to the group Nine Inch Nails. The duo formed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is today very well known for their soundtracks (The Social Networkthe series Watchmen, Challengers…), but this is the first time that they will compose for a film under the banner of their industrial metal group.
Certainly, the group’s sounds and experiments make them more and more unclassifiable over time, but Rønning said that the choice of Nine Inch Nails was an important indicator of the direction taken by Tron 3.
“With Nine Inch Nails on the music, this part will be a little more raw and industrial. It was important for me to contrast the grid and the real world. In that sense, Nine Inch Nails totally has its place in this new world we are creating for Tron.”
If the director did not give more information on the storyline of the feature film, it is clear that Ares will question its own nature as a program in contact with human beings, and Rønning supported this fact by emotion of his story:
“What I look for in any story is a strong emotional core. This film will undoubtedly be more moving than people expect. It’s about the cost of being human.”
Given the man’s previously questionable pedigree and the usual marketing diatribes, we will allow ourselves to have doubts. But we can’t lie, we can’t wait to take a look (and an ear) at this Tron : Areswho should disembark in French cinemas on October 8, 2025.
