Back to the Future 4 exists, and it’s no joke! But first of all, here is a reminder for those who are not up to date (yes, it exists!). Back to the Future is a cult trilogy of sci-fi films directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg.

Released in 1985, 1989 and 1990 respectivelythese films follow the adventures of Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, a teenager, and the eccentric scientist Emmett “Doc” Brown played by Christopher Lloyd through different eras thanks to a time machine, a modified DeLorean .

For a long time, fans have hoped for a sequel to this legendary cinema saga, without ever seeing their wish come true… Until now, but not on the big screen. Initially designed to accompany an attraction at a Universal park, this fourth part went unnoticed by the general public, because it was never distributed in theaters. The idea had sprouted in Steven Spielberg’s mind in the 1980s, but was only made official in 1989.

A fourth opus, Banana!

Launched in 1991 in Universal parks, Back to the Future 4, known as the attraction “Back to the Future: The Ride” quickly enjoyed worldwide success, being exported to California and Japan. However, unlike the films, Michael J. Fox preferred not to reprise his iconic role of Marty McFly, not convinced by the idea of ​​a sequel.

The story takes place in 1991, where Doc has created a futuristic institute dedicated to time travel. Visitors can even test drive a DeLorean capable of seating up to eight passengers. While Doc leaves for 2015 to check the stability of the timeline, other scientists explore 1885 and 1955. But when Biff Tannen steals the DeLorean, a chase through time begins.

The plot essentially revolves around the final confrontation between Doc and Biff Tannen, the eternal antagonist of the saga. The creators of the saga, Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale, although absent from the project, gave their approval, recognizing the fidelity of this new adventure to the universe of Back to the Future. However, they reiterated their position: a real official sequel will not see the light of day.

So, unfortunately, we will not see a real sequel to Back to the Future on the big screen, especially when we know the state of health of poor Michael J. Fox, who suffers from Parkinson’s.
