explosive trailer for the Russo brothers’ Netflix sci-fi film

The Russo brothers’ Netflix science fiction film, The Electric State, has just been revealed in a spectacular trailer.

If the return of the Russo brothers within the MCU for the production of Avengers : Doomsday et Avengers : Secret Wars has completely cannibalized their media space, the duo is also very busy outside the Maison des Idées. They are currently hard at work finishing post-production on another blockbuster: the post-apocalyptic science fiction film The Electric Statea Netflix film whose outlines they revealed in 2020.

The first images of The Electric State intrigued us, because they evoked an extraordinary artistic direction, with giant robots whose very childish appearance contrasted with their destructive capabilities. These same images already showed a high-flying cast: Netflix darling Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci and Giancarlo Esposito. This time, Netflix posted the first trailer online and took the opportunity to reveal its official release date.

Adapted from the novel… The Electric State (yes, it’s original)

For those who have leafed through the graphic novel The Electric State by Simon Stalenhag (author de Tales From The Loopadapted into series by Prime Video) it is very impressive to see to what extent the Russo brothers insisted on restoring certain images of the original material identically. The retro-futuristic aesthetic of the graphic novel seems to be respected, the story set in an alternate 1997 where robotics has gone off the rails.

The novel (and therefore the film) is a road trip across the United States, following Michelle (Millie Bobby Brown), who sets off in search of her missing brother with the help of her pet robot. and the eccentric Keats (Chris Pratt). They must cross a country devastated by a war caused by drones, where robots have been reduced to slavery, and where human beings live disconnected from reality thanks to (or because of) virtual reality headsets.

Chris Pratt will be there

According to thees sources de Deadlinethe Russo brothers’ film would have a budget of $200 million, which would make it one of Netflix’s most expensive productions. For comparison, both Rebel Moon by Zack Snyder would have cost $166 million between them. The duo had wanted to adapt Simon Stalenhag’s graphic novel for ages. A priori, they had bought the adaptation rights in 2017 and tried to make it happen with Universal, before the project fell through.

Enough to do Netflix’s business. Previous successful collaborations between the streaming platform and the Russos (both Tyler Rake, The Gray Man) undoubtedly helped set in motion their vision for this retro-futuristic road trip. Before a return to the superhero side, the Russo brothers will reveal The Electric State on Netflix March 14, 2025.
