This actress from the film Pirates of the Caribbean returned to her bad experience at Disney and his role with Spielberg which restored his faith in cinema.
After years of moving backwards, the saga Pirates of the Caribbean will make its return to theaters with a sixth film which is already bordering on production hell. While there has long been talk of a potential female spin-off with Margot Robbie, it was ultimately the idea of a reboot with a new, younger cast that won out, as confirmed at the start of the year producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
It remains to be seen whether this new part will feature the same characters or whether it will present a whole new gallery of pirates, damsels in distress and other governors or commodores of the British India Company. Obviously, fan service still having a bright future ahead of it in Hollywood, it is not impossible to still see one or two well-known faces pass in front of the camera.
If the names of Orlando Bloom or Geoffrey Rush would be credible, we can automatically eliminate others, like Johnny Depp who is not really in the odor of holiness, and Zoe Saldana who has bad memories of his time on the Gore Verbinski set.
NOT A SHIP, A GALLEY
Before becoming the popess of the TOP 10 worldwide at the box office with Avatar and Marvel, Zoe Saldana has gone through other franchises and blockbusters, the first being Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003. She then played the pirate Anamaria, a minor role who only has a few lines of dialogue and on-screen appearances.
On the occasion of a recent conference at the BFI London Film Festival to promote the film Emilia Perez by Jacques Audiard, the actress spoke about this bad experience:
“This experience allowed me to know what type of people I wanted to work with. 99% of the time, the crew and cast are truly wonderful. But if the studio, producers and director don’t show kindness, care and consideration, then a production of this scale can become a very bad experience and you risk falling overboard. That’s kind of what happened to me. »
Some time later, Zoe Saldana was hired for a supporting role in Le Terminal by Steven Spielberg. This more modest project (due to its almost unity of location and its 60 million budget) however allowed him to film alongside Tom Hanks, Diego Luna and Catherine Zeta-Jones, but also to find a working environment in which she felt comfortable: “ Il [Steven Spielberg] gave me confidence in the fact that adults [films] could also be great« .
This is not the first time that Zoe Saldana talks about her time in Pirates of the Caribbean. In 2022 in particular, she had already spoken about it with Entertainment Weeklyexplaining that she had felt like ” lost in the trenches » most of the time, which led Jerry Bruckheimer to apologize to him.
Unless you want to cure evil with evil, there is therefore little chance (or risk) of seeing Zoe Saldana one day re-boarded on the Black Pearl.
